Using Cartoons to Educate Children on Going Green

I just read this story on how Japan has just created an Anime and Eco Environmental Magazine to raise awareness amongst children on environmental issues.  It’s a great way on educating the world’s future while they are young and are not against change, as some adults.  In the United States, I think the only cartoon that educated children on the environment was “Captain Planets and the Planeteers.”  Correct me if I’m wrong.

We need to have more shows like this, so our children know the environmental problems that are plaguing the world.

However, we have ridiculous cartoons like “Fairy Godparents,” “The Grim Adventures of Bill and Mandy,” and “Chowder.”  One thing that I love about anime is that they usually have some underlying meaning.  It isn’t just grotesque humor that doesn’t do anything but dumb-down children.  If you want to watch great educational shows for your children, you have to turn on PBS.  However, not many parents do that and allow their kids to watch Cartoon Network nonstop.

Definitely a thumbs up for Japan.  I hope that other countries follow suit and start creating their own versions.
