Five Best Christmas Movies in the 2000s
The kids and I have been watching Christmas movies left and right since the day Thanksgiving ended. It helps that I have Tivo, or else I would miss tons of them. I have seen tons of list about everyone’s favorite Christmas movies, so I decided to only focus on the ones made after the year 2000. Below are my family’s five favorite Christmas movies after 2000.
1. Polar Express – I will have to admit that at first, I didn’t care for this movie, which is based off Chris Van Allsburg’s book of the same name. After watching it for the 100th time with the kids, I have changed my mind. I look at how mesmerized my children are with the movie. It is a great movie to make children have the belief that Santa, elves, and reindeers really do exist. Their eyes have the same glazy, dreamy look that I had when I read the book as a child. What if there is a Christmas train that takes you to see Santa? I haven’t met a child who doesn’t like this movie. Even if you don’t like it, you should have your children watch it. It will make you a believer.

2. Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone – The children and I love Harry Potter. When my son was two years old, he would jump on top of the couch with a makeshift wand and scream “Expecto Patronum!” I watched this movie when he became obsessed with Harry Potter, and I couldn’t believe it took me years to watch it. I chose this one because the cast is so little and cute. Also, that it was the one that started it all. It’s a great Christmas movie because you have this magical world that could possibly exist. We watch this movie every Christmas because we love Harry Potter Christmases.

3. Elf - If you turn on any cable channel, this movie has played on it at least once. Will Ferrell plays the displaced human who thought he was an elf really well, and doesn’t overact like he sometimes tends to do. It’s a movie that kids and adults can both enjoy, and you wish you were able to head to the North Pole at least once in your life.

4. Love Actually – I added this movie to my Netflix queue after watching “Definitely, Maybe.” I am a sucker for intertwined short stories, and Love and Christmas are the best feelings to bring together. After watching this movie, I wanted to fall in love, and would love for it to happen during Christmas. It kind of reminds me of “Paris Je’Taime.” If you love cute stories, definitely add this one to your must-watch list.

5. Christmas with the Kranks - This movie is not as bad as I first thought. I wouldn’t watch it more than twice in a year, but it’s still a wonderful movie to watch during the holidays. I always wondered how the holidays would be for a couple whose children have feld the coup. This movie does a funny way of interpreting this.

Tell me what your top five would be. I would love to hear them.
