The Top Five Movie Trilogies Ever

A good movie trilogy is a hidden gem.  It’s hard to create a follow-up sequel to a movie, so can you imagine two more?  These are my top five trilogies of all time.

1. Trois Couleurs (Blue, White, and Red) – This trilogy was directed by Krzysztof Kieslowski.  Each movie represents a part of the French flag: Blue: Liberty, White: Equality, Red: Fraternity.  Kieslowski wrote amazing plots and chose great actors to really interpret what France is.  The movies were so well made that you can’t really choose which one is your favorite without really giving it some thought.

2. Vengeance Trilogy (OldBoy, Lady Vengeance, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance) - Korean director Chan-wook Park didn’t pull any stops when he created this trilogy.  Anyone who is a movie aficiando has seen and loves the second of the trilogy, “Oldboy.”  However, if you are able to see all three, do it because it completes the message that Park was trying to carry out to the public.  There are rumors that Spielberg is going to remake it and put Will Smith as the leading star.  If you get a chance, see the original before it is tarnished.

3. Elements (Fire, Earth, and Water)Deepa Mehta’s trilogy that deals with the three main elements: fire, earth, and water is wondrous.  It emphasizes on issues that affect women in India that no one talks about and other countries have no clue about.  Her scenes are breathtaking, and she ensures that the element is shown by the color scheme that she selects.  “Water” is my favorite, but the other two are just as great.

4. Lord of the Rings (Fellowship of the Ring, Two Towers, Return of the King) - I know there are hardcore LOTR fans who hated the movie, but being someone who really hasn’t read the Tolkien trilogy, I loved it.  It amazes me that Peter Jackson directed all three films at once.  Additionally, this is when I was first introduced to Karl Urban, and I have loved him ever since.  One of the greatest fantasy trilogies ever.

5. Bourne Series (The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Ultimatum, The Bourne Supremacy) - Bourne is beyond hardcore. The first movie was directed by Doug Liman, and the last two were by Paul Greengrass. You wouldn’t know it because all the movies are full of action and suspense.  “Bourne Supremacy” also has Karl Urban (I had to add that useless tidbit of information).  Matt Damon proves that he is the best one of the Damon/Affleck duo, and that he was born to play Bourne.

Share yours. Would love to hear them.

Thank you. I didn't notice til I came up with all five that all the trilogies come from different countries. Unfortunately, that is the rumor, so let's just hope it remains one.
