Top Ten Films To Watch on Earth Day

Earth Day is tomorrow, and it’s a day to appreciate our world. Below are my top ten lists where the Earth is the main player:

1. Planet Earth – This picturesque documentary took years to make, and it shows. It has the most beautiful and rare videos captured of the Earth and its animals. It was also a success with the kids. You can watch it over and over again, that I am thinking of adding it to my DVD collection.

2. When World Collide – Another planet is coming towards Earth, so a group of people bound together to find a way for humanity to survive. This movie shows the importance of our Earth and all the creatures in it. It makes you realize how precious it is.

3. The Day the Earth Stood Still - An alien comes to warn humans to stop their own (and possible other aliens) existence. The one I am talking about is the original where they are showing how war is destroying us and the world.

4. The Day After Tomorrow – Due to global warming, the Earth goes through an Ice Age. Even though the Ice Age was suppose to be a shock factor because they say that global warming is going to cause excessive heat, the movie is a good one to show what tragedies can happen if we don’t start taking of our planet.

5. Princess Mononoke - Miyazaki’s tale of a boy who tries to prevent the destruction of nature. My kids and I enjoyed this movie and it taught them to start taking care of the environment.

6. Wall-E - A robot on Earth goes after the robot he loves, and becomes the survival of human beings. This movie shows how we are treating our Earth like a garbage can, and how our obsession to make everything computerized could be our demise.

7. Metropolis - My favorite silent film of all time. Even though this movie was more about class, it showed how our future Earth could look. It’s impressive that it was made in the 1920’s.

8. The Core - Earth is dying, and natural disasters become an every day occurrence. Without our Earth, we will be SOL.

9. 2001: Odyssey – It starts from the beginning of time, and Earth is the main character.

10. Kurosawa’s Dreams – Nature is the main focus of the movie, and it’s just gorgeous. It is a movie that let you appreciation life without anything but what the Earth already provides.

What would be on your top ten list?
