Imitation of Life is My Favorite Movie Made Before I Was Born
When I first saw “Imitation of Life” as a teenager, I knew that it would be one of my favorite movies for the rest of my life. I would watch it twice day, and never got tired of it. Even now, I have to watch it a couple of times a year and still cry when I see it.
It has so many themes that are present today:
- Mother-Daughter Relationships
- Ambition Versus Relationships
- Racial issues
- Mother Sacrificing Everything for Her Daughter
- Selfishness
They do not make movies like this nowadays. A movie that can capture the struggles of the character in such a way that it’s endearing to watch. Maybe the only movies that can do that now are foreign and independent films because Hollywood has lost that charisma.
The theme song from Mahalia Jackson, “Trouble of the World,” is just gorgeous, so it makes it even better. I read her biography when I was in elementary school, so it was great to actually hear her sing in the movie. Even now, I have the song on my iPod.
I am going to watch this movie tonight because it has been way too long.

Both versions of the movie are good.
Yeah they are, and the original had Claudette Colbert who is just
amazing, but I prefer this one. Maybe cause it's the first one I
watched.
Im actually looking for related content. I’m lucky I got here. Thank you
